Smart energy use and solar power
At Kröll, you can soak guilt-free in the wonderfully warm whirlpool on the roof terrace with panoramic mountain views before returning to your air-conditioned room for a restorative nap – because a portion of the energy powering the hot and cool #realtime moments at the Kröll comes from our rooftop photovoltaic system. This is complemented by automated control systems that regulate the hotel’s technical facilities based on actual demand. For instance, the water from our whirlpool is drained into a tank each evening and purified via a filtration system. This saves energy while ensuring the water is fresh and inviting for you to dive back in the next day. Incidentally, all our other pools are saltwater pools as well, utilizing salt electrolysis for water treatment.
And because figures often speak louder than words, we would like to show you just what our system achieves:

Goodness from our farm
For us, "regional" isn't just a direction on the menu. Sometimes, we know exactly which tree our breakfast started on, as our family also runs its own farm. That’s where we grow fresh apples—along with other seasonal fruits and herbs—that make their way to the Kröll and onto your plates. Our house-smoked bacon also comes from our farm in Schenna.
You’ll encounter our apples in many forms: fresh to go, in apple strudel, or processed into our own products like apple juice. We use the other fruits and herbs in our kitchen depending on the season and harvest. Anything that doesn't come from our own farm is sourced based on quality, seasonality, and availability—preferably from South Tyrol and the local area.
That’s how we ensure a genuine origin we know firsthand.
Exploring South Tyrol

Arrive at Kröll, pack your car key away, and have almost forgotten where you put it a few days later. Sounds like your dream holiday? At Kröll, it’s easy to make it come true: the footpath is just down from our eco-friendly hotel in South Tyrol – heading right takes you into Schenna village centre, left directly down to Merano. In the village, you can also access countless hiking trails like the Schenna or Mais Waalweg trails, and all of Merano and Environs is yours to explore by bike. Especially practical for excursions: the bus stop on Via Scena/Schennastrasse, 100 metres above Kröll and just a 2-minute walk away. The bus takes you directly into Merano, where you can transfer to reach other South Tyrolean gems like the provincial capital Bolzano – totally free of charge thanks to the Südtirol Guest Pass Schenna.

Is that everything? No.
And that is precisely why we don’t want to simply tell you that a holiday at the Kröll is “green,” “eco-friendly,” or perfectly sustainable. We can, however, show you what is already being done.
